In January 2019, she began with a modest self-funded effort, managing to spay\/neuter 26 animals. With support from individual donations from friends, family, and acquaintances, the campaign grew, and a total of 837 animals were spayed\/neutered that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"389\" data-end=\"694\">In 2020, the initiative became a non-profit organization, officially named Stray Animal Project in both the United States and Peru. Through our partnerships with local veterinarians, we have grown year after year, becoming the only NGO in Peru dedicated exclusively to spaying and neutering cats and dogs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"696\" data-end=\"901\">Today, we have consolidated our efforts under the name <strong>Stray Animal Project,<\/strong> with a strong commitment to continue preventing and reducing the vulnerability of thousands of animals suffering on the streets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karina Canales, a Peruvian living in the United States, had the dream of reducing the overpopulation of stray dogs and cats in Peru.
